HBO has released a sneak peek of its upcoming Harry Potter TV series with the first photos of actor Dominic McLaughlin in his Harry Potter costume and Nick Frost dressed as Rubeus Hagrid.

HBO has released a first glimpse of its highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, unveiling images of actor Dominic McLaughlin in costume as the Boy Who Lived, alongside Nick Frost as the beloved half-giant Rubeus Hagrid.

Production has officially begun at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., the same location where the original Harry Potter films were shot between 2000 and 2010. The studio has also announced additional casting, including roles for Harry’s spoiled cousin Dudley Dursley and loyal Gryffindor classmate Neville Longbottom.

Set to premiere in 2027, the new series will reimagine the original Harry Potter saga with significant plot changes. Each season will focus on one of the seven books from J.K. Rowling’s internationally acclaimed series, offering a fresh take on the wizarding world for a new generation.

The episodes are being written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials, Killing Eve), while Mark Mylod, known for his work on HBO’s Succession, is confirmed to direct multiple episodes.

Dominic McLaughlin has officially been cast in the iconic role of Harry Potter in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The young Scottish actor, around 11 years old, steps into the legendary role first portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe from 2001 to 2011. In addition to his role as the Boy Who Lived, McLaughlin is also set to appear in the BBC’s upcoming Gifted series, premiering in late 2025, and Sky’s original film Grow.

Joining him is fellow 11-year-old newcomer Stanton, who will portray Hermione Granger — the brilliant and fiercely loyal witch who played a central role throughout the original series. Previously brought to life by Emma Watson in all eight films, Hermione remains one of the most beloved characters in the wizarding world. While this marks Stanton’s on-screen debut, she has already made a name for herself on stage, having played the lead in Matilda on London’s West End in 2023.

The casting of McLaughlin and Stanton signals a fresh new direction for the franchise, as HBO reimagines the magical saga for a new generation.
