Congress Sets Parliamentary Strategy: To Raise Pahalgam Attack, Trump’s Ceasefire Claim, EC’s Bihar Roll Revision in Monsoon Session

As Parliament gears up for the Monsoon Session from July 21 to August 12, the Congress party is finalizing its strategy with a focus on key national and international concerns. High on its agenda are the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial claim of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire, and the Election Commission’s intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Amid ongoing speculation about the future of the INDIA bloc, the Congress leadership is also making efforts to strengthen coordination with its Opposition allies, both inside and outside Parliament. Party sources indicated that outreach efforts are being planned to align strategies and prioritize key issues for the upcoming session.

On Tuesday, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi chaired a meeting of the party’s parliamentary strategy group at her residence at 10 Janpath. The meeting was attended by senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, K C Venugopal, P Chidambaram, K Suresh, Tariq Anwar, Kumari Selja, Manish Tewari, and Jairam Ramesh.

Following the meeting, Congress Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, addressed the media. “Our first priority will be to demand answers from the government on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor,” he said. “We also want to know why the U.S. President is repeatedly claiming that he was behind the India-Pakistan ceasefire. Who authorized him? Why is our government silent on such statements?”

Tiwari emphasized that the party will press the government to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the terror attacks, stating, “We want to know who is responsible and why the perpetrators have not yet been caught.”

Additionally, the Congress plans to raise concerns over the Election Commission’s ongoing electoral roll revision in Bihar. Tiwari described it as a serious issue, warning that it poses a “threat to democracy” and must be discussed in Parliament.
